On the one year anniversary of Philip Seymour Hoffman’s death, pop-soul singer/songwriter Matthew E. White posted his tribute to the departed actor on his blog. The song, titled “Tranquility,” is from his forthcoming sophomore album Fresh Blood.
In the post accompanying the song, White writes that he had followed Hoffman’s career for 15 years more as a student than as a fan and was compelled after Hoffman’s death to write a tribute to a man who was, in White’s opinion, “everything one could want to be in an artist.” White writes: “To a man that showed me, over and over, what excellence and craft is, here is a song for you.”
Fresh Blood, the follow up to 2012’s Big Inner, will be released on March 10th by Domino. Listen to “Tranquility” below:
