The 13th Floor Elevators were one of the bastions of psychedelic rock in the late 1960s. Though they only lasted for four years as a band, their influence can be felt on bands to this day. Now, it seems that the tumult that tore the band apart is behind them, as the Elevators have announced their first live performance in 48 years at the Levitation Festival in Austin, Texas.
All four surviving original members of the band–Roky Erickson, Tommy Hall, John Ike Walton, and Ronnie Leatherman–will perform at the festival, as well as a few special guests. The Levitation Festival also features the likes of Tame Impala, The Flaming Lips, The Jesus & Mary Chain, The Black Angels, and many others who owe a bit of a debt to the Elevators. Perhaps they’ll join in on the fun?
Tickets for the Levitation Festival can be purchased here.
