This ubiquitous dynamic duo brought string theory to new heights at Folk Alliance. The babyfaced Strings (born William Apostol, for those who read songwriter credits) plays the guitar like he invented it, and together with his regular partner, mandolin master Don Julin, the two have been carving out not just a niche but their own valley in bluegrass. Joined by bassist Kevin Gills for a couple of performances in the showcase rooms upstairs, the trio ripped through traditional tunes and a few originals, heating up the frigid Kansas City night. Here’s a taste.
