When Karin Mallory’s father was diagnosed with brain cancer, she refused to take the news lying down. Rounding up a few talented friends, she has organized a benefit concert with the hope of raising money and awareness for the underfunded illness. To reach a wider audience than possible through a typical benefit, Mallory is making use of Concert Window, an “online music venue” that streams concerts from all over the world in real time and allows viewers to tune in for a price.
Mallory and her pals have already sold out The Bellows Falls Opera House in Bellows Falls, Vermont, so those in Vermont and around the world will have to tune in via the site for an evening of great music from the Steel Wheels, a four-piece bluegrass band hailing from Virginia that displays a serious talent and commitment to rediscovering and paying tribute to their musical roots. Also performing will be drummer Todd Roach, musician Mac Ritchey and hoop dancer Beth Lavinder.
Watch the video below, featuring an introduction by famed documentarian Ken Burns, to find out more about Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure and the concert, which you can sign up to view for a “pay what you want” donation here.
