In anticipation of the release of his 11th solo album, No Pier Pressure, former Beach Boys legend Brian Wilson has released “Sail Away,” a song from the album featuring guest appearances from former Beach Boys Al Jardine and Blondie Chaplin.
The nautically themed song (not to be confused with the song of the same name from Wilson’s 1995 collaboration with Van Dyke Parks, Orange Crate Art), follows the trajectory of 2012’s Beach Boys reunion album That’s Why God Made The Radio. Wilson, Jardine and Chaplin offer many-layered vocal harmonies over a song that is something of a hybrid, with nostalgic songwriting that evokes the Beach Boys’ mid-60s heyday paired with modern, ultra hi-fi production.
No Pier Pressure, which will be released on April 7, is a star-studded affair, featuring guest appearances from, in addition to Jardine and Chaplin, fellow former Beach Boy David Marks, fun.’s Nate Ruess, Kacey Musgraves, She & Him, Don Was, and more. Listen to “Sail Away” below:
