Modest Mouse has just announced that their next record will feature Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic. Even though it took Modest Mouse eight long years to release their most recent album, Strangers to Ourselves, frontman Isaac Brock promises the wait won’t be as long for the next one. “I was mindful of that this time,” Brock said. “I went in with a plan!” Well it looks like the plan is working, because the next record seems to be well on its way.
Brock had a similarly interesting perspective on what to title the record. He said, “I thought, ‘Okay, I always put out these long fucking titles, and I wanna not do that … ‘ But the title was just going to be Whatever. And the dumbest thing … I was going to misspell ‘Whatever’. You know like, just have it be ‘Whabever‘. I just wanted to go as dumb as fucking possible. Mainly to be antagonistic and just cos I kinda thought it was funny.” While it may not be a brilliant title it is definitely a new and entertaining idea.
After reading that I’m sure that it won’t shock you to hear that the album cover also has an interesting backstory. Brock said, “And so I came up with this cover art which Epic were like, ‘You could do that, but we can’t sell that anywhere.’ But I’m still going to get the cover art together. It’s fucking dark, it’s awesome.” Well, with a dark album cover and a feature from Krist Novoselic Modest Mouse’s new record is sure to be a great one. Be sure to catch Modest Mouse on tour, and you can stream and purchase their newest album, Strangers to Ourselves, now.
