Over Labor Day weekend last year, blues guitar hero Joe Bonamassa played a sold out tribute to the music of Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf at the famed Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado. Next week, the concert will be released on Blu-ray, DVD and CD and we have an exclusive preview of Bonamassa’s performance of the Muddy Waters classic “Stuff You Gotta Watch.”
The DVD, Blue-ray and CD cover the full concert, which includes Bonamassa and his Muddy Wolf Band playing a set each of Muddy Waters’s and Howlin’ Wolf’s songs as well as an encore that draws from Bonamassa’s typically wide-ranging repertoire. Of the concert, Bonamass said, “It was the gig of a lifetime for me. What you see on this DVD is is what it was like to play in front of the largest audience of my career, playing music that I loved, love and fell in love with again in a much bigger way than I had before.”
The concert was a part of Bonamassa’s ongoing quest to keep the blues alive. Indeed, the concert was also a benefit for Bonamassa’s aptly named Keeping the Blues Alive foundation, which funds music scholarships and blues education programs for the next generation of blues fans and musicians.
Joe Bonamassa – Muddy Wolf At Red Rocks will be released March 24 on Bonamassa’s own J&R Adventures. Watch Bonamassa’s rendition of “Stuff You Gotta Watch” below:
