English folk trio the Staves released their second album, If I Was, earlier this year, and they brought in some help in the form of Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon as a producer. Vernon has taken something of a larger role in the development of the young band, joining them onstage for record release shows and live events. Recently, The Staves and Vernon joined together to perform a version of Bruce Springsteen’s slow-burning classic “I’m On Fire.” Vernon opens the song with his best Boss impression, but the song becomes something special when the Staves join in. With their affecting vocal performance, they elevate the cover to something truly worthwhile. You can watch the cover–as well as an interview with Vernon and the Staves about the song–here.
