It’s always exciting when a new Ray Wylie Hubbard album comes out. The singer/songwriter is one of the most strikingly original musicians in the country. He doesn’t so much write songs as tell stories with characters and themes as deep as most novels. His new album, The Ruffian’s Misfortune, finds Hubbard as great as ever. This time around, Hubbard has made one of the tightest records he’s ever recorded; not a single note on the album is wasted. His live shows are, thankfully, not so brief, but they have an even greater intensity. The crowd at the Museum Club in Arizona will find that out soon.
