In a sad bit of news from over the weekend, blues legend B.B. King suffered a minor heart attack on Thursday and, after a brief hospitalization, is under home hospice care at his residence in Las Vegas.
The incident took an especially unfortunate turn as Patty King, daughter of the 89-year old bluesman, accused her father’s longtime manager, Laverne Toney, of elder abuse and embezzlement. King’s daughter claims that Toney, who holds power of attorney over the elder King, initially refused to call the hospital after he father’s heart attack. She further asserts that Toney has stolen upwards of $30 million from her father and withheld medication from King, who suffers from diabetes and high blood pressure, during tours.
A statement posted on B.B. King’s website on Friday reiterated that he is home recuperating as well as thanking fans for their well wishes and prayers.
