After a lengthy rollout, environmentalist jam band My Morning Jacket finally released their first new album in four years, The Waterfall, last week. To celebrate and promote this release, the band ventured onto daytime television for the first time with a performance of The Waterfall‘s lead single, “Big Decisions,” on Ellen.
Wearing an odd, colorful jacket, frog-voiced lead singer Jim James lead his cohort of Kentucky longhairs through the light, country-inflected, feel good track for a daytime television audience (presumably) comprised primarily of freelancers working from home, the unemployable and children home sick from school. Ellen host Ellen DeGeneres, as is her usual wont, expressed enthusiasm for the band’s performance and gave away copies of The Waterfall to all the members of her studio audience. DeGeneres noted that she is giving away tickets to shows from the band’s current tour through her website.
