Last October, Seth Smades (vocals, guitar), Devon Quartullo (drums), Nullin Hasan (piano, flute) and Tracy Haddad (upright bass) came together to form the pop folk band, Luxxe. Following the popularity of their previous single, “Love Me,” the band sold out their EP release show at Phoenix’s Crescent Ballroom, and emerged victorious at Warped Tour’s Battle of The Bands competition, placing them in a great position for an exciting debut.
The EP, One, is scheduled for an August release. Included in the EP is “Cello,” which explores the feelings of an undying lover. Through the clever arrangement and use of strings (also the case with the double-bass in “Love Me”), the cello in “Cello” mimics the lover’s heartbeat, ceaselessly tugging on his heart. This catchy hook, accompanied by the harmonious blending of the cello and the guitar, is accentuated by their funky rhythm, giving the track its pop folk groove, which the band is starting to become known for.
