When five rowdy young roots musicians meet at a gathering called the Black Mountain Ramble, you can expect some kind of mischief to materialize. In the case of Von Stomper, a band quickly gaining traction in the Colorado music scene, some pretty kick-ass tunes came together as well.
Together, singers/guitar players Wolf van Elfmand and Luke Callen, banjo and harmonica player Mark Austin, upright bass player Taylor Shuck and drummer Dane Mark knew that they could make their mark on Americana traditions, creating something with deep roots but a brand new sense of energy and excitement. Now, with two years of collaboration under their belts, the boys are getting set to release their sophomore effort, Américado, on September 19th.
“Down By The River,” is a raucous, rambling tune, with an accompanying video that suggests the boys are having every bit as much fun as their music sounds. The song lies somewhere between the hard edge of rock and the freewheeling, full bodied instrumentation of Americana. Part Dylan-esque country ballad, part booze soaked O.A.R. Jam, Von Stomper is unquestionably cobbling together a wide range of influences to create a sound of their own.
Keep on the lookout for Américado in a few days, and catch the boys on tour in the Western half of the US throughout September and October.
