Legacy Recordings is releasing Weather Report: The Legendary Live Tapes: 1978-1981. The Weather Report was a legendary jazz-rock-funk ensemble that influenced countless music groups over the years. Originally formed in 1970 by Joe Zawinul and Wayne Shorter, who both had impressive prior credentials as performers, the group went on to create music for 16 years, using elements from different genres to create their own unique sound.
This deluxe set includes four discs made up of unreleased live concert performances from the group’s classic lineup of Joe Zawinul, Wayne Shorter, Jaco Pastorius, Peter Erskine and Robert Thomas, Jr. Both Erskine and Zawinul assembled, curated and produced this collection of songs, which come from never-before-heard soundboard tapes. The disc set also comes with song-by-song descriptions of performances by Peter Erskine.
