Exclusive: After a Decade, Chip Kinman Strikes Again With Debut Single “Expect It” From His New Band Ford Madox Ford

After a decade of self imposed exile from music, punk-rock legend Chip Kinman is making a dramatic return with his new band, Ford Madox Ford. Frontman Kinman brought the group (also written as FDMDXFD) together in 2015, recruiting guitarist Dewey Peek, bassist Matt Littel and drummer S. Scott Aguero. Since their formation, they’ve hit the ground running, sharing stages with Songhoy Blues and the Avengers, and even headlining the 2016 FOMO Fest.

Today, Elmore is premiering FDMDXFD’s debut single, “Expect It.” Starting with a nod to Melanie’s 1970s hit, “What Have They Done To My Song, Ma,” the band bursts out of the gate with a searing mix of punk-rock and blues roots, mixing old school and modern sounds with a touch of grunge at the core. Despite the nihilistic worldview, the hard driving rhythm makes it hard not to get up and move your feet to the beat. But back to that nihilism bit… “”Expect It” is about collapse and the complete nothingness that follows,” Kinman says of the track. “I looked at the past, I looked at the future, and that’s what I saw. If that doesn’t give you the blues, Lord have mercy on your soul. I wrote the song with Dewey Peek in Austin, TX, the only place that song could have been written.” So take a lesson from Ford Madox Ford, and just keep on rockin’.

The limited edition 7″ vinyl single is available to pre-order here. Stream “Expect It” below, and catch Ford Madox Ford on tour this Summer or during their residency at the Redwood in Los Angeles every Wednesday in May.
