The four young men who make up Radionaut took a while to find each other, but each was driven by a passion for rock n’ roll– a desire to keep it alive in all of its gritty, sweaty glory, by any means necessary. Through luck (and social media), the quartet came together in the industrial district of Vernon, in Los Angeles, California in early 2010, each adding a particular set of skills that perfectly complimented the others—Frankie Divis providing fearless, raspy vocals as the frontman, Diego supplying blues-tinged and hard-rock guitar, and drummer Aaron Ascano and bassist Anthony Villamayor rooting the band with its heavy metal backbone. Who knows, perhaps Radionaut was written by the rock gods.
Today, Elmore is premiering “Walking the West,” the band’s debut single, a blues-rock burner. ““Walking the West” is our journey westward to the new frontier of music and life for us as a band in L.A.,” the guys told us. Divis’ gasping, urgent vocals give the song a unique, almost bluesy edge, his lyrics radiating with desire. The head nodding and hip swaying rhythms will keep the listeners on their feet, syncopated percussion driving the song into fiery, heavy metal breakdowns.
Head to radionaut.bandcamp.com for free downloads of some of the band’s tunes. Listen to “Walking the West” below, and if you’re in the Los Angeles area, check them out at the Whisky-A-Go-Go with the LA Guns on July 29th.
