Born and raised in Phoenix, AZ, Sean McConnell dropped out of college to pursue music, primarily as a recording studio engineer. He purchased a one-way ticket to Chicago and called the mid-west his home, until he made a brief move to Austin, TX in the fall of 2010. He began writing songs and performing his own songs as part of the pop duo You Are An Airplane. By 2011, the band toured through the south and also played a few unofficial SXSW showcases. McConnell returned to Chicago and assembled his band, Cold Country – a rotating line-up of friends and local Chicago musicians named after a term his Minnesota-born father used to refer to the mid-west.
Since forming, Cold Country has self-released three EP’s, a full length, a handful of bedroom recorded tapes, and completed several DIY tours around the country. McConnell has just released a new single with a video — you can watch it here — and also started working on another full-length due out in 2017. If you’re in the area, you can see the band perform live at the Rockwood Music Hall on Sept. 17 (For event information, go here) — make sure you check them out!
