For Will Wadsworth, a rough patch in life—band breakup, romantic breakup—morphed into a career. To cope with his troubles, he and his roommate, Jeremy Horton, formed a gospel get-together, inviting pals over to sing away the blues in the form of gospel standards from the Staples Singers, Mahalia Jackson, Sister Rosetta Tharpe and more. Soon the casual gathering of friends blossomed into a crowded weekly jam, and the guys realized they had something special on their hands. They solidified a core group of five members– Wadsworth and Horton plus Kim Garcia, Kelsey Lee, Kevin Collins and Andrea Chita—and began to play shows around their hometown of Los Angeles, releasing their debut album, Heavenly Fire in 2014, with the help of producer Matt Wignall (Cold War Kids, J Roddy Walston and the Business). They’ve gained a steady stream of fans along the way for their bold and barn-burning old-school meets new-school blend of Gospel, Americana and rock ‘n’ roll.

At the Music Tastes Good Festival this September in downtown Long Beach, CA, photographer Ana Gibert caught up with the soulful quintet for a photo session. Catch up with the Eagle Rock Gospel Singers via their website and Facebook, and check out portraits of the group above.
