In a statement today, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that the state’s Board for Historic Preservation nominated Yasgur’s Farm, among 25 other properties, resources and districts, for addition to the State and National Registers of Historic Places.
The 600-acre dairy farm in Bethel, New York is famous for hosting 1969’s Woodstock Festival, which attracted over 500,000 attendees for four crazy days of music and art.
This is a major step for the Farm, who has fought a long crusade for historic landmark status. According to the Board, if a property is less than 50 years old, it has to prove its “exceptional importance” in order to even earn a nomination.
