Folk Alliance International, one of the most unique and nonstop music conferences in the world, takes over a large hotel each year and turns the hotel’s rooms into a collection of music venues. Twenty-nine-year-old Folk Alliance showcases talent, while next door, at another hotel, four-year-old Music Camp trains musicians to step up their talents, whether they make music as a career or a beloved hobby. Musicians sein back and forth between the two enterprises.
A stellar lineup of friendly instructors—all successful in their own right—teach classes in songwriting, singing and a wide variety of instruments. Learners of all ages, levels, and walks of life study with over 20 premier instructors, and you don’t have to be a folkie to learn something valuable.
Whether attending the conference as an industry person, amateur or old pro, anyone looking for new skills can probably find it at Music Camp. Open to all—not just Folk Alliance International attendees—Music Camp offers a unique and affordable opportunity to learn new licks, write a song, get exposed to a new instrument and return home inspired.
Classes are held Friday through Sunday, Feb. 17-19, from 10 am – 4:15 pm at the Sheraton Hotel, which is connected by skywalk to the Westin Hotel where FAI’s conference takes place. Click here for the full schedule of classes.
The Music Camp is open to the public, $60 per day or $150 for 3 days. Pre-registration is recommended to guarantee space. Registered FAI conference delegates may attend a single class or all day, for a special registrant rate of $10 per class.
