Leo Bud Welch is a Delta Blues musician born in 1932, in Sabougla, Mississippi. For most of Leo’s life up until 2014, he just performed in the Delta region. In 2014, at the Beale Street Music Festival, Leo Bud Welch was performing at the side stage, and he intrigued me; he also caught the ear of Buddy Guy, who checked him out.

When I got back from the festival I told Cleopatra Records about Leo, which led to this album. Live at the Iridium Captures Leo at his Delta best, playing guitar, singing and telling the story of the Delta Blues in New York City. That night, Leo was joined on stage supported by Vencie Varnado, and Dixie Street, one of the blues’ best drummers.

The set consist of blues standards: “Still A Fool,” “Got My Mojo Working,” “My Babe,” “Good Morning Little School Girl,” “Rollin’ & Tumblin’” —17 tracks in all, with one original, “Praise His Name.”

Leo Bud Welch brings you to the Delta in his own style; he is an original and has done his part in Saving American music.
