Delta Deep came together when Phil Collen, Def Leppard’s lead guitarist, was jamming at home with his wife’s godmother, Debbi Blackwell-Cook. What started as casual singing of Motown favorites and classic blues quickly turned into much more. Collen’s photographer wife Helen joined in, and the three began writing original music and recording together as Delta Deep.
Their upcoming Delta Deep East Coast Live CD/DVD (Frontiers Music Srl.) captures a magical night where all the stars fell into place at Daryl’s House, the Pawling, NY club owned by Daryl Hall, of Hall & Oates. This whole album was recorded that night, when the band was relaxed but at the same time on fire. The album will be available January 26, 2018.
Phil Collen has fond memories of this version of “Bless These Blues,” one of the original tunes written by Phil, his wife Helen and Debbi Blackwell-Cook: “This tour was the first time we played the song live, and I’m blown away by the sound. It came over like a living, breathing powerful entity—a monster—everything you’d want in a live song. We had this particular performance filmed at Daryl’s House on the second to the last day of our East Coast tour. It was so mighty, it made sense that we release it as a live performance lyric video instead of just an audio track and share it with the world.”
