David Myles frequents the same tailor as Buddy Holly and—thankfully—the same muse, but he’s cheating on that muse with the muse of folk-jazz, whoever that is. With catchy, throbbing, simple-but-not-boring and dance-able songs, Myles covers all the important bases in songwriting and performance.

Most of the CD is upbeat, with the unabashed rockabilly opener “Night & Day” seguing to “Real Love,” a tune that might have come from Roy Orbison’s songbook. Tender and sincere, his simply-delivered “If You Want Tonight” softly—and successfully in my case—woos listeners.

I don’t think my stiff-lipped father liked rockabilly, but he’s the only one I can think of offhand. If you haven’t heard anything good in that genre for a while, turn yourself on to David Myles and bring it all flooding back—and then some.
