Fab Faux themes include George Harrison’s 75th Birthday

Fab Faux shows evolve on cross-country tour

The Fab Faux, L-R: Rich Pagano, Jack Petruzzelli, Will Lee, Jimmy Vivino, Frank Agnello

Most of us never saw the Beatles in concert, but the Fab Faux faithfully recreate some of the most extraordinary music ever written, and are, arguably, the next best thing. Five of the hardest-working musicians in NYC tackle the Beatles’ most demanding material, live. Now in their 20th year performing together, the Fab Faux’s members are Jimmy Vivino (from Conan), legendary bassist Will Lee (Late Night with David Letterman), drummer Rich Pagano (Rosanne Cash, Roger Waters), keyboardist Jack Petruzzelli (Joan Osborne, Patti Smith, Rufus Wainwright) and guitarist Frank Agnello (Phoebe Snow, Marshall Crenshaw), often aided by  the   Hogshead Horns and the Creme Tangerine Strings to achieve an uncanny recreation of the Beatles’ complex orchestral sound.

The shows’ set list changes radically: sometimes the White Album in its entirety, sometimes Abbey Road, sometimes a themed show. George Harrison’s 75th Birthday Celebration will lovingly  feature songs by the late songwriter/guitarist. The first White Album show will be in Los Angeles, on September 29, and George Harrison’s Birthday Bash  is November 3, in NYC, with many stops in other states and cities.

Rich Pagano described the experience to Elmore: “It’s always fun to gather in the small room and just play songs that we feel like playing at the moment, as in the SiriusXM series. The video series of six songs truly shows the intricacies of Beatles music. We kept it loose with no overdubs and made sure that our personalities are also injected into the rock and roll approach. This series is an enjoyable example of The Fab Faux playing some of the best music ever written. In the case of “Strawberry Fields Forever,” we stay very close to the record with some slightly exaggerated dynamics and intensities. Will Lee and I expanded on Ringo Starr and John Lennon’s multi-drum rumblings that we all know from the record as it fades out, yet we decided to turn it all into two drummers that are kind of having a conversation.”
