Four veteran artists got together to sing in the Christmas season, although at least one veteran could have been another’s grandson (Zac Hanson is 33, Mike Love, 77). Beach Boys co-founder Mike Love got together with another family band, Hanson, to harmonize and have fun. On hand was a gal who’s bound to carry on the tradition, Love’s talented daughter Ambha.
The two Loves and band started off the evening with carols from Mike Love’s new Christmas album, Reason for the Season, then brought up Hanson. The invitation-only audience saw first-hand the chemistry between the two groups—amazingly, Hanson started even younger than the Beach Boys (the youngest, Zac, was 12 when he was nominated for his first Grammy)—and the fun didn’t stop. Actually the last two songs were the Beach Boys’ classic “Little Saint Nick” and “Fun, Fun, Fun,” a perfect way to describe the entire evening.
