The Ivey siblings grew up on the family farm in the Rio Grande valley where their father raised cotton, alfalfa, pecans, and music-loving children. Influenced by Dad’s favorites like Bob Dylan and The Beatles, the kids also absorbed modern acts like The Lumineers and First Aid Kit.

The Iveys band was formed initially by Arlen Ivey and sister Jessica Ivey Carr, who brought in three more members of their family — sister Jenna, brother Galen and husband/brother-in-law Sammy Carr — that the band felt truly complete. According to Arlen, “The music has a different kind of depth. It’s interesting how the family aspect of the band has unintentionally come through in the songwriting and taken the music to another level.”

Their influences are apparent in the album, Colors of Honey. Just as each family member has his or her own experiences, in a closely knit family, those experiences impact the other members, ultimately becoming part of the Iveys’ collective story.  Similarly, the songs on Color of Honey, each complete on its own, together weave  a story that spans the album. The sibling harmonies and pure instrumentalism that make the music of The Iveys their own runs through the album from start to finish.

Arlen Ivey told Elmore: “This song came to me first as a storyline; that gorgeous girl who is sick of all the phony guys telling her exactly what she wants to hear, and then one day a “Regular Joe” walks in. He is honest and true to himself, and because of it he ends up winning the girl’s heart. The band and I came together and had fun creating a sound for this song taking inspiration from old school rock and roll, pushing it along with a driving beat, straightforward guitar work, and lively piano. The video came about because we wanted a way to introduce the audience to who we Iveys are, to get to see us in our creative element out here in the desert Southwest. It’s a fun song that allows you to escape into another world for a few minutes, so turn it up and sing along!”

With the Iveys, family comes first—not only on weekends and holidays, but each time  load up  for concerts across the country. With seven children in the family, the band The Iveys are (from oldest to youngest in the Ivey family): Arlen Ivey (vocals/acoustic guitar); Jessica Ivey Carr (vocals/piano); Galen Ivey (drums/percussion); Jenna Ivey (vocals/violin) and brother-in-law Sam Carr (electric guitars/banjo).
