“How can I find earbuds that provide good sound and stay in your ears?” “I don’t know a thing about Bluetooth but I’m tired of fumbling with cords.” If that sounds like you talking, you might consider 1MORE Stylish True Wireless earbuds. They operate on Bluetooth 5.0 and support both AAC and aptX high-quality Bluetooth codecs. What IS that?! dunno, but I a phone with Bluetooth so I  gave 1MORE Stylish earbuds a test drive.

As a songwriter, I’ve been wearing “cans” since I first walked into a studio at 14. I don’t mind the weight and I love the fidelity. But you don’t see them walking down the street, so I knew I was missing something—mobility. Freedom to listen, freedom to talk without buds that fall in your lap or onto the street.

SOUND QUALITY: Bass sounds are noticeably louder than midrange sounds, so there is some loss of high range sounds. But fans of a bass-heavy sound (R&B, hard rock, EDM, for instance) will  like the 1MORE Stylish, and you can usually adjust the mix on your playback device. I listened to studio recordings of my own songwriter demos on my Android cellphone; at just above 50% volume, the sound quality was very good, without any signal stuttering. I phoned a friend who told me several times that the sound quality was “very crisp.” While there was a bit of background static on my end, I was able to hear every word she said.

CHARGING: Simply put the buds into the case and connect to your computer or charger with a micro-USB cable (included). Charging takes 85 minutes. The optimized battery provides 6.5 hours of continuous play/talk time on a single charge, and 96 hours (4 days!) of standby. Just charge your ear buds whenever you charge your phone and you’ll be good to go. A red LED light on the case indicates that they’re charging. A big bonus: In a pinch, a fast 15 minutes of charging will give you 3 hours of use.

DESIGN: They come in pink, gold, green and black. It’s always nice to have options, especially if you’re giving 1MORE earbuds as a gift (Father’s Day?). The website promises “a tight, secure fit during extended use.” While  most earbuds don’t stay in for me, I am happy to report that 1MORE Stylish earbuds feel comfortable and stay put. An eco-friendly metallic color coating process provides a smooth metallic finish. It’s easy to spot L and R on each bud, and the case and buds themselves are compact and lightweight. The case opens smoothly when you press a button, and storing in the case will keep the earbuds from wear over time. There’s no controller, so you have to adjust volume on the device playing the music, but it’s one less piece of hardware to get lost in your backpack or gym bag.

EXTRA POINTS FOR: Automatic connection to your phone, once you’ve used them. Stored in the case, they turn off; take them out and they turn on, which is handy. The silicone O‑hooks are easy to turn when inserting the buds in your ears, and provide a very secure hook when you’re bouncing. The plastic drawstring pouch can hold the replacement ear tips and O‑hooks. The sleek case, as small as an egg, is sturdy and lightweight, fitting easily in the hand or pocket. With cord and case, these buds are easy to charge anytime. There’s only one mode, so you can switch from phone to music and back with one setting in your phone’s Bluetooth menu. You can connect both earbuds to your smartphone or opt for the right one only. This is useful if you’re crossing the street or listening in a crowd. You and a buddy can each wear one bud, so you’re listening on the same device, sharing music or a phone call, as long as you’re within 30 feet of each other. The left bud has a button to answer, hold or decline a phone call; or you can double-click to contact Siri or Google Assistant. A button on the right bud allows you to play music, pause, or go to the next or previous track. 30-day guarantee, which you likely won’t need.

POINTS OFF FOR: Probably more protective packaging than is necessary. Is there some reason the earbuds couldn’t be shipped inside their own case? The paper manual, in its own disposable cardboard wrapper, has just a few pages in English with tiny text in white on grey. It’s nearly impossible to read, but it turns out, it’s available online. I’m new to Bluetooth, so I needed someone to help to connect the earbuds and phone, but happily they have good online support.

VALUE: If you’re tired of getting earbuds at the dollar store, if you’re totally over earbuds that fall out, if you hate having to hold your phone to listen to music, these could be what you’re looking for. If you’re shopping at about $100 and you put strong bass response, stylish design, comfortable fit and long battery life at the top of your list, you should definitely consider 1MORE Stylish earbuds.
