A social activist, John “Pops” Dennie connects with people through his music, reaching others through common experiences, despite any differences of opinion. In today’s world, those strengths are more important than ever, and Dennie’s new album, I’ve Got Something To Say, comes at just the right time. Dennie’s perspective is at once broad yet pointedly relevant, as evidenced by his assessment of today’s music: “While the music business has changed quite a bit, writing good songs will always be the same.”
Packed with thoughtful insights, idealism, great stories and plain old good riffs, the record runs deep and wide. with distinctive sounds from around the globe. Dropping Sept. 18, I’ve Got Something To Say reflects the buoyant strides of love and a life well-lived.
As he told Elmore, “You know how some people will tell you how to build a watch when you only asked for the time? I can be that guy. I was thinking about that when this song just kind of jumped out of my head and onto the page. A few seconds into writing it, I knew it was going to be about the love of my life, Mary Beth. But I guess that phrase ‘I’ve Got Something To Say’ has one meaning for the song and another for the album title. Sure, ‘I’ve Got Something To Say’ is the title cut, but there are songs on this record that are important for the times we’re living in. And well, I guess I’ve got something to say about that too.”
