Premiere: Leon Creek redefine “Call It A Day”

This trio runs deep and wide

L-R: Erik Janson, Chris Pierce, Matthew Stevens

A new project from Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Chris Pierce, Matthew Stevens and producer Erik Janson took its name from a small river near San Antonio, Texas. Leon Creek served as the first watering hole for Texas travelers, mail and cargo making their way to Southern California, back in the mid-1800s.

Just as Californians absorbed and developed influences from the cultures picked up along the way, Leon Creek alters a variety of influences to bring forth a new take on the traditional Americana/roots sound.
Chris Pierce’s vocal and blues harmonica prowess are showcased in a new light, combining with the finger picking, bluegrass melodies of Matthew Stevens and the vibrant production talents of Erik Janson. Leon Creek feeds reflect the broadening scope of contemporary Americana, country and blues to create, like California, a new sound of its own.

Pierce told Elmore, “‘Call it a Day’ is a song that reaches out to all of the hard working folks out there trying to make sense of it all. With the lyrics and the overall feel of our song we hope that we can remind those who are struggling to make ends meet, to take some time to reflect and celebrate all of the hard work and the soulfulness within the grind that fuels that struggle. It’s a song for all of us to sing and shout together as it speaks to fighting the good fight, then taking a step back to relax and reflect on life’s victories, defeats and everything in between.”

Chris Pierce recently gained national prominence with his hit co-write “We Can Always Come Back To This” that aired on TV’s This Is Us, and has collaborated with Sunny War with War & Pierce; Matthew Stevens, who has recorded World- and Cumbia-inspired tracks with Ozomatli’s Asdru Sierra and rapper Thurz, contributes the bluegrass which rests perfectly on the maximalist production talents of Erik Janson (Wildling & Left Field Messiah).
