Acclaimed as a rising star, singer/composer and saxophonist Camille Thurman has been compared to Ella Fitzgerald on vocals and Joe Henderson and Dexter Gordon on tenor saxophone—a helluva band right there. Thurman has mixed music and a bit of politics with her personal #metoo story (recently published in the Allegro 802 Union magazine).
With soulful inflection, Fitzgerald-esque scat prowess and a sax that blows the roof off the place, Thurman will present Because of Them, We Are, original compositions written to acknowledge the myriad women who have experienced sexism, and to promote healing. The work will be premiered at Uncharted, at the Greenwich House Music School on Thursday, April 5.
Ms. Thurman’s band for the evening will include David Bryant on piano, Dezron Douglas on bass and Eric McPherson on drums, and it promises to be an extraordinary evening of music and inspiration.
